Dimethylxanthine also known as Theophylline is in the methylxanthine family of drugs and is used to treat asthma and other respiratory problems. Numerous side-effects have been reported with the pharmaceutical drug and are now rarely used for clinical use. Because it is a member of the Xanthine family there are remarkable similarity to caffeine and other stimulants. Trace amounts are found in tea and yerba maté.
